Roe deer are often seen in and around woodlands.
In October the autumnal leaves transform the trees, and once fallen they produce a great carpet blazing with reds and yellows.
This is the traditional time for animals and insects to begin hibernation.
Also look out for:
- Conkers and acorns as they drop to the floor.
- Fungi which continue to be present in a variety of forms and colours in the woodlands, such as shaggy inkcap.
- The first winter thrushes (Redwing and Fieldfare) arriving back from Scandinavia.
